This story is just out of control! So, 37-year-old Austin Dawkins from Clarkesville, Georgia allegedly lit his wife on fire by playing with a lighter while filling up his gas tank and it was all caught on film. Oops! What an idiot! I'm sure this is the type of guy who smokes cigarettes while he's pumping gas. I guess nobody taught him that gas is flammable.
Dawkins now faces criminal charges after surveillance footage taken at a Clarkesville gas station on October 16. It shows him dangerously placing a lighter between his truck's gas tank and his wife. What kind of idiot would do this? Within a split second, fire officials say, the gasoline vapor ignited around his hand like a fire ball. The video of his apparent attempt to withdraw the nozzle instead amplifies the flames in the direction of his 30-year-old wife, Jessica Dawkins.
The couple frantically jumped back, but Jessica is seen unable to retreat fast enough. As she runs, fire catches onto her body critically injuring her with second and third-degree burns to her legs, arms, back and head. She was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta before being released. Austin, who suffered minor injuries to his hands, was arrested Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He faces charges of reckless conduct, which holds a maximum penalty of a year in prison and up to a $1,000 fine.
