FRESHMAN DIES OF OVERDRINKING ON HIS 19TH BIRTHDAY

I thought this was a pretty sad story, but the question is who is at fault here? This is the story about a popular Pennsylvania college freshman known around campus as "Mr. Mayor". He died Saturday afternoon from drinking too much celebrating his 19th birthday. Everett Glenn's lifeless body was found at Lafayette College's Kirby House dorm at around 2 p.m. on Saturday. He was pronounced dead 35 minutes later at a local Easton, PA hospital.

According to the Montclair, New Jersey native's mother, the young fencing star was boozing heavily to celebrate his birthday and doctors told her that he had a heart attack. She went on to say that he was drinking too much, then he went to his room and laid down, and that was it. Um, last time I checked the drinking laws were 21 and over in this area, especially in PA. I know this was a tragic death, but are we overlooking the drinking age on this one? Glenn was only 19, and if my calculations are correct, that's two years short of the legal drinking age. Where was he getting his booze from? Are they being held accountable? Because back when I was under the age many moons ago, if someone got into an accident or severely sick, whomever served them the drink was the one liable. Is that the case here or are we going to mourn the death of a popular college student?

Glenn graduated from Montclair Kimberly Academy in 2011 and was nicknamed "Mr. Mayor" at Lafayette for his magnetic charisma and charm. Like I said, all of this remembering Everett Glenn is nice and all, but what about the underage drinking and the party who served him the drinks. How are they not in trouble? I'm not saying that underage drinking doesn't happen or shouldn't happen because we'd all be stupid to think that it doesn't, but when someone dies from it, questions need to be raised before you memorialize the person. For instance, if he was going to drink underage, shouldn't you know your limit? If you were feeling sick and you were as popular as they say that he was, wouldn't one his 'friends' be keeping an eye on him? How can they just let this kid die like that without any sort of investigation?

This whole situation makes absolutely no sense and if I was Everett Glenn's mother, I would be asking questions and possibly suing the school for allowing her son to drink under the legal drinking age, and allowing him to die. Easton police didn't release an official cause of death, but they did say that foul play was not involved. There is something very fishy about this! Then again, not really my problem. Oh, well!
