So, I took my cat to the vet this morning and as I sat in the waiting room, this horrible story came on the news. It was one of those stories that make you shake your head in disbelief and make you wonder what the hell is wrong with our society. Is there a brain cell missing in some us to make us act the way that we do?
This story was about a woman from Nutley, New Jersey, who was arrested after police said that she brought her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing the little girl to suffer burns. 44-year-old Patricia Krentcil, who was charged with second degree child endangerment, claimed that her daughter was never exposed to the tanning booth's UV rays and instead got slightly burned while playing outside on a warm day. Yeah, right! According to the child's father, the little girl told her classmates at school that she "went tanning with mommy," and a teacher overheard the commentary inaccurately connecting the girls sunburn to the tanning salon trip and contacted police immediately.
Rich Krentcil, the child's father who is blown away by the publicity they're getting for all of this, still claims, "It was 85 degrees outside, she got sunburned. That's it! That's all that happened!" While his wife Patricia says that she treats her tanning salon trips as an errand in which she brings along her daughter, but insists the booth lights were never exposed to the little girl. Tanning salon trips an errand? What? It sounds like someone watches a little too much "Jersey Shore"! Does she go to the Gym before that and the Laundry after Tanning for a little GTL action? Seriously?
The Nutley, or shall I say Nutty, NJ mom, who was released on $25,000 bail, stated that it was like taking your daughter to go food shopping, and that tons of moms bring their children to the tanning salon. She went on to say that she's been frequenting her local salon for 10 years, and doesn't know why her visits there with her daughter have suddenly been called into question. She tans while her daughter waits in the room.
In the state of New Jersey, children under 14 are not allowed to tan at indoor salons, while those 14 to 17 years old may do so with a signed parent consent form. Patricia is expected to appear in court Wednesday and hopes to convince the judge it was all a misunderstanding. Personally, I think the only misunderstanding here is the color of her skin now! If you see the video footage of Patricia or even look at her pictures, she looks like a burnt Oompa Loompa! She should really be rethinking the whole tanning thing because her skin looks like leather and she just looks absolutely ridiculous! And if she did indeed put her child in harm's way by putting her in a tanning booth, she deserves any punishment coming to her! What a freaking monster!
Of course she's from NJ, wth?!?!
