My childhood friend, Kathy, reached out to me last week to let me know about something that's been happened her family this past August and it's pretty disturbing! You see, last August, Kathy and her family were having a yard sale and her three boys, who are 6,4, and 1 were in charge of their lemonade stand. A neighbor who shopping at the yard sale was hit with something in the back of the leg, then soon after Kathy was hit with something in her hand, which was literally 5 inches away from the middle of her sons eye. Kathy and her husband, William Zerden Jr. from Vernon, both noticed two boys around 15-year-old with guns pointing at them and peeking around the house across the street.
William reacted and immediately ran across the street to protect anyone in his family from getting hurt. Kathy told me that one of the boys lived in the house diagonally across the street from them and she knew the family well. The boy has been welcomed in their home many times, he's even eaten at their house and spent a lot of time with the boys, while William had been to the boys house frequently helping the mother out financially and with vehicle repairs. Anyway, William chased the boys back to that house where they ran inside the back sliding door and William followed them in.
The boys hid while William spoke to the mother and he told her what her son had done and he told her that he was going to call the police, but she urged him not to saying that it would make for bad neighbors. William left and went back across the street and told Kathy to call the cops on the boys. When the police came and questioned the mother of the one boy, she told them that William had trespassed and wanted to press charges. She also told police that William assaulted one of the boys, which is absolutely not true. The boys did admit to shooting at Kathy and her family with an airsoft gun and that they were pretending they were in the military just having fun. So, no charges were pressed on these boys and it's fun to shoot at people with a pellet gun? Is this the world we live in now?
Now, William has an indictment for criminal trespassing for doing what any father and husband would've done. William, who suffers from lime disease, also lost his father that month and his younger brother a month later, and now he has to fight to stay out of jail. Kathy says they've spoken to a few lawyers and said it can cost up to $20,000 just for their retainer. This is absolutely ridiculous! So, this mother is pressing charges because William walked into her house because her son was doing something bad, but he's the one in trouble? And she begged him not to because it makes for bad neighbors? Well, what the hell did she just do? She made for bad neighbors by pressing charges! What the hell is that? Kathy told me that the judge might drop the case, but the prosecutor won't drop and wants to go after William. Sounds to me that the prosecutor might be a bit of s douchebag if you ask me and I hope one day someone shoots the prosecutor with a pellet gun. Then we can see how much they like it.
