I
saw this story yesterday and it bothered me a little. Sometimes, it bothers me
when co-workers or classmates actually see some of my Facebook posts or
pictures that I don't mean for them to see. Then again, it's my fault for
placing these posts and photos on a public forum. That's what happened to an
Idaho high school basketball coach last week, only she was fired for posting a
photo of her boyfriend grabbing her boob to her 'personal' Facebook account
while on vacation. Yup! What is this world coming to that you can get fired for
something you do on your own time?
Laraine
Cook was fired last week by Pocatello High School, just after a titty-grab
photo, which I'm sure was meant for laughs, was put on the popular social media
site. The photo featured her in a bikini in front of a large body of water with
her boyfriend and Pocatello football coach Tom Harrison holding her right
breast with his left hand. The shot was reportedly taken on a recent vacation. The
highly-decorated football coach wasn't flagged for holding, but he was
reprimanded for the photo, according to reports. The photo has since been
removed from Facebook.
Players
and parents have attempted to get Cook reinstated as head coach meeting with
School District 25 officials last Thursday, but their appeals fell on deaf
ears. According to one spokeswoman, it was 'personnel decision' and hasn't
confirmed the reason for dismissal. Cook led Pocatello to a third-place finish
at the Idaho State Tournament last season. Cook did receive a glimmer of hope,
however, when Idaho superintendent Mary Vagner agreed to initiate another
review that included the Pocatello principal and the athletic director, but
ultimately the school stood by its decision to let Cook go.
Personally,
I think this is B.S.! I do agree that you really need to be careful about what
you post because you never know who is watching, but what you do on your own
personal time on your own personal Facebook page should have nothing to do with
your work life. Both do not go hand in hand. It's not like this photo was taken
on school grounds nor was it really sexual in nature. I really think the
football coach did it to be funny. The only funny thing about this is that he
got reprimanded and she got fired, which leaves me to believe that she got
fired for more than this photo because this just makes no sense. I don't think
she did anything wrong here. What do you think?
Damn that's some bull shit. Poor girl, it would seem the school really wanted her out for other reasons, this was just the thing they needed to get her out.
