You
have to love these stories! We're going to just have to chalk this up in the
"Oops!" column. It turns out; a female police officer, who sent
videos and photos of herself in uniform to her lower-ranking officer lover, has
been demoted recently. Former lieutenant Diana Lopez, who was in a relationship
with the lower-ranking officer at the time, used her personal cell phone to
send sexually explicit content. Lopez, the public information officer for
Tuscon Police Department was demoted from the rank of lieutenant to sergeant
after the investigation.
The
probe was initially sparked by anonymous letters to her department in August
2012. According to the police, Lopez's actions had violated several department
regulations, its code of ethics and professional standards. Assistant police
Chief Kathleen Robinson wrote: "Lopez used extremely poor judgment in
sending these images undermining her credibility as a commander. Her actions
have negatively affected not only her reputation, but the reputation and mission
of the Tuscon Police Department." Um, hello? Did anyone in this
investigation realize that Lopez used her own personal cell phone to send these
messages? I said, "Her own personal cell phone!" Doesn't that mean it
was done on her own time on her own dime? And if the lower-ranking officer was
the one who sent the anonymous letters about the naked photos of Officer Lopez,
he's a complete moron! She's not exactly ugly! Unless, he was trying to get out
of a relationship with her and was seeing someone new and Lopez was coming on
too strong, then I can see him being a rat, but to do it just to get her into
trouble...MORON!
According
to the department, Lopez's boyfriend, who was never identified, showed the
content to other officers between May and August 2011. The investigation
revealed that 13 people had seen the footage, but the racy clips were never
uncovered. Who cares? It was supposed to be between her and her boyfriend at
the time. The officer who showed the content to other officers is simply a
scumbag and an attention whore. I'm not sure why she admitted this, but Lopez
also admitted to kissing an individual in a station locker room. Why? Who
cares? There's no such thing as an office romance in Tuscon?
As
I seen it, most of this stuff was done on a personal level. She didn't use a
company cell phone to send the messages and so what; she had a fling in the
locker room? What she does on her off-time is personal and should be no
reflection of the police department unless it's illegal, of course, but I see
nothing illegal about what she's done. Lopez, who is now working in the
operations division, is believed to be considering a civil lawsuit against the
city, and I think she might have a case. Her lawyer even brought up
"constitutional issues over lawful off-duty behavior and violation of
privacy." Hmmm....Isn't that what I've been saying throughout this whole
blog?
