How
often do you look down at what you're eating? Probably, not very often. I
promise you that after you read about this airport restaurant mishap, you'll
keep an eye on everything you eat! So, it turns out a passenger at Atlanta's
Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was stunned to discover maggots crawling on top of a
sandwich he ordered at a terminal restaurant last week.
Joe
Woloshuk purchased a focaccia sandwich from Cafe Intermezzo and when he opened
the box after boarding his flight to Miami, he noticed something on the bread
start to move. He said, "I'm looking, what I thought was parmesan, right?
And the parmesan began to move." Immediately disgusted by the sight of his
maggot infested lunch, Woloshuk did what any person in their right mind would
do and he took out his cell phone out and shot video of the maggots. In video,
Woloshuk says, "That's what I was served for lunch," as he poked the
lump of maggots with a straw to make them move. Are you throwing breakfast up
yet or what?
Woloshuk
kept the sandwich and called the restaurant to let them know of the problem
when he returned to Atlanta. He told them, "This isn't a wilted tomato.
This isn't even a moldy piece of bread. These are maggots!" Of course,
instead of taking the blame on themselves, Cafe Intermezzo blamed the bread
maker for the maggots and told a news channel that it had already found a new
bread supplier. The company claims, "All products from the vendor were
removed. Not one single crumb of bread from the vendor remains in the
facility."
The
restaurant offered Woloshuk a refund, which he declined saying that he would
rather have the cafe erase his memory of the whole episode because that is
sight you will never forget. He says, "I'm in this airport weekly, and it
makes me pretty angry." It's true! We're supposed to trust our food
handlers when we pay for food. It gets me angry still when I see restaurant
workers not wearing gloves when they make your food. Seeing that has caused me
to walk out of many establishments. Just because they have a sign in their
bathroom that says, "Employees Must Wash Hands" doesn't mean it's
okay to serve people food with no gloves on. Why would I want sweaty, clammy,
bacteria infested hands touching the meat I'm about to ingest? It makes me sick
just thinking about it. Unfortunately, for Woloshuk, he can't un-see what he
saw, but it teaches all of us a lesson to look before we eat!
