I've
seen some pretty crazy things for sale on Craigslist from sex to virginity, but
this might be a first! This is Paul Marquez. He's a 22-year-old Staten Island
man who got pissed that his girlfriend wasn't paying enough attention to him,
so he tried to sell her two-month-old daughter on Craigslist for $100.
According to police, at least one person responded to the ad calling the mother
to buy the infant. Notice I didn't even say "their" two-month-old
daughter, which means not only did this girl have a baby with someone else, but
he was also trying to sell another dude's baby. What the hell is wrong with
people?
Marquez
is being charged with three misdemeanors for allegedly placing the ad under the
"Baby and Kids" section of the site. The typo-ridden post included
his phone number, his 19-year-old girlfriend's name, Katie Devalle, and a photo
of the baby. The post read exactly like this: "Heyy I have a 2 month old
baby. She loves to play nd have her little fun but there is only 1 problem, the
doctor said that she has asthma nd if she turns a certain way she can stop
breathing, she's really getting on my nerves nd I don't want her." What
the hell was he trying to sell a puppy? This Marquez guy is a sicko!
Marquez
was arraigned last Thursday for violation of a social services law, aggravated
harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He's being held on only a
$1000 bail and is due back in court today. According to court papers, Marquez
admitted he "did all this to get back at Katie." He told police,
"The reason I decided to put this post was because I got bored and wanted
to get a little laugh and a little kick out of it, but nothing serious."
To make matters worse, at least
one cretin actually called Marquez about the ad. Marquez, himself the father of
a 2-year-old girl, passed along Devalle's phone number. The caller contacted
the teen mom and offered to buy her baby. Police are still investigating
whether the caller was serious or pulling a low-brow prank. The ad was quickly
flagged by two callers to the 121st Precinct, but a brazen Marquez placed a
second ad.
The
Computer Crimes Squad tracked the ad to an IP address, which traced back to
Marquez's address, which he shares with his mother in the Todt Hill Houses. He
and Devalle had met online recently and dated a few times. Trust me, that
explains a lot! I know that there are a lot of success stories from online
dating, but come on! There are some real psychos out there! Devalle works and
between her job and the newborn, she apparently didn't have time for his
knucklehead. Even he was joking or trying to pull a prank on his girlfriend, do
it on your own time and in your own space. Why would you take your prank to
Craigslist, which is a site full of scams anyway? I think if Marquez really
found a serious buyer, that baby would be in someone else's house right now. I
can tell because this kid has "crazy eyes!"
