Have
you ever driven by a neighbor's house and thought, "Their grass is too
long! I'm going to burn their house down!" That's what 58-year-old Phillip
Bennett from Cartersville, Georgia did. He set fire to his neighbor's house
because the grass in his backyard grew too high for his liking. According to
police reports, Bennett gutted Marty Corbitt's property after dousing it with
gasoline and setting it ablaze with a lighter. Corbitt and his 3-year-old
daughter miraculously escaped the Wednesday morning blaze unharmed. Corbitt's
wife, Katie was at work during the incident.
Corbitt
admitted to a local news station that Bennett had been a pretty good neighbor
for the past four years but tensions had risen in the last week over his
unkempt lawn. He went on to claim that the unstable Bennett had kicked in his
front door and threatened to kill him if he didn't fix the problem. Fearing for
his life, Corbitt called 911, but suddenly saw Bennett return with two cans of
gasoline. He then witnessed Bennett smash the kitchen window in and pour
gasoline into the room and set it on fire. Corbitt grabbed his daughter and
they fled outside only to watch their house burn. Firefighters arrived minutes
later and battled the flames, but the home was gutted.
Bennett
went on the run, but turned himself in to U.S. marshals in Murphy, North
Carolina this past Thursday, where he now sits in a county jail awaiting
transfer back to Georgia. Meanwhile, the Corbitts get to stay with relatives
until they figure out what to do with their house. Okay, here's what I have to
say; this whole thing was about a lawn! All Marty Corbitt had to do was mow his
lawn! Then again, it's his property and his business. If he wants to be a lazy
piece of crap and not mow his lawn or care for his yard. That is his business.
As for Phillip Bennett, there's no need to threaten someone's life over it. How
is his high grass affecting you in any way, other than the fact that his
property might be an eyesore to the neighborhood? Once again, that's not really
his problem. So, now the Corbitt family is without a home and Bennett is in
jail. It looks like things didn't go as planned, huh, Mr. Bennett? I swear
people are dumb and really care too much about other people's business. If I
saw a neighbor's lawn too high, which I have, I would just laugh at it. Trying
to kill a family because of it is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention there
was a 3-year-old girl in the house! What a psycho! Then again, it is Georgia.
The only think good about Georgia are its peaches! No one ever accused them of
being a smart state.
