Today's
story was a no-brainer! Not because it was an easy story to choose since I love
writing about marijuana, but because it literally took no brains to pull this
stunt. So, apparently, a Maine high school was hosting a youth event
emphasizing "Community, Academics, Passion and Ethics," nine students
were apparently getting high on the school's grounds. The thing is that they weren't getting
high the old traditional way. They got high by eating pot-laced chocolate chip
cookies! That's right! In fact,
that's how many of the Cape Elizabeth High School Students were suspended after
apparently eating the marijuana-laced cookies.
Some
of the students became sick and reported to the nurse's office, but there was
other evidence that sparked the investigation. The good thing is that none of
the students needed to be hospitalized. The student who provided the pot
cookies knew what they were, but not all of the students who ate the pot-laced
cookies were aware of what they were eating. The funny thing is that the
day-long TEDxYouth event for juniors and seniors featured speakers focusing on
the district's guiding values of "Community, Academics, Passion and
Ethics." Is that hilarious or what?
A
boy was booted from the school two years ago after he sold a pot brownie to a
classmate, who ended up in the emergency room. No one has been charged for this
stunt, and the school is not releasing the names of the students involved.
Okay, now that you know the story, here's my take on it; Kids will be kids! It
was better that this was a high school rather than a grammar school. We've all
been there in high school where we experimented with everything under the sun.
I mean, I personally, haven't, but I heard that high school students did.
Anyway, I felt that the real flaw here was that they chose to eat these cookies
on school grounds. That wasn't too bright! Yes, it was funny that they did it
on a day where they had to listen about community values, but to do it in
school was not too bright. I also didn't agree that the kid, who gave the
cookies out, didn't tell the other kids what they were eating. That's not fair
if you lace something and fail to tell others. That kid deserves a beating! Who
was he? Alan from The Hangover? I've been around friends who have eaten
pot-laced cookies or brownies and it's pretty potent stuff that can really get
you sick if your body is not used to it. Not to mention if one of those
students was allergic to THC. This story might've been a lot worse to read. And
besides, marijuana's still illegal in Maine, right? Just checkin'!
