Today,
I really wanted to write about that Florida woman who killed herself because of
her afflicting genital arousal sexual disorder, but then this story popped up
and it was so much more entertaining. So, it just so happens that a North
Carolina prison warden has been suspended pending the outcome of an
investigation into allegations that inmates were forced to rub hot sauce on
their genitals. Don't knock it unless you've tried it...Not that I have or
anything.
Anyway,
Department of Public Safety spokeswomen Pamela Walker stated that Sampson
Correctional Institution administrator, Lafayette Hall, has been put on a paid
leave while the State Bureau of Investigation reviews what happened at the
Clinton facility. A correctional officer was to have also been put on leave.
Back
in July, six inmates from Sampson sent a hand-written letter to the U.S.
District Court in Greensboro complaining that the staff had forced them to
perform numerous humiliating acts for the entertainment of the other guards,
including stripping nude and pretending to have sex. The medium-security
facility houses about 500 male inmates and is about 60 miles southeast of
Raleigh, NC. The inmates also reported being forced to gulp a super-hot
"Exotic Hot Sauce" purchased off the Internet and rub it all over
their testicles, as well as being forced to grab and kiss wild snakes while
working on a road crew and throwing captured bunnies in to oncoming traffic. Who
does this? Animals do this! The inmates who performed for the guards were
rewarded with preferential work assignments, food, cigarettes and beer. Just a
little side note, tobacco and alcohol are banned from North Carolina's
prisons.
In
their letter, the inmates ask for the court's assistance in finding lawyers to
help them file a lawsuit against the state. They also stated that they feared
for retaliation from the staff in the prison. Miss Walker said that the prison
system first learned of the allegations through the internal grievances filed
by the inmates and not from the letter to the court. Either way, the treatment
of these prisoners is seriously screwed up! These guards need to be punished!
As for the prisoners, they're in there for a reason, so I'm sure what they had
to do for the guards, pales in comparison to the crimes they committed. That's
unless they're in there for a speeding ticket or something.
