Whoever
came up with this idea needs their head examined! So, apparently, a teacher at
an elementary school in Texas rewards good behavior with something called
"Boyd Bucks," which is fake money that is required for trips to the
bathroom. Well, Sonja Cross was outraged after her 7-year-old son was forced to
pee in his pants and suffer ridicule because he couldn't afford to pay for a
trip to the restroom. Can you blame her? If your child came home with pee
in his or her pants because they weren't allowed to go to the bathroom,
wouldn't you be a little 'pissed off'? No pun intended!
Cross
says that she was absolutely appalled to learn that her son's teacher makes
students 'pay' to use the bathroom. The J.O. Davis Elementary teacher, who
remains nameless, required students to pay for trips to the toilet with what
was called "Boyd Bucks," fake money that the first-year instructor
uses to reward the children for good behavior. Didn't anyone tell this teacher
that when you have to go, you have to go! Besides, when has anyone ever had to
pay to use the bathroom? I can see doing this to an adult who can probably hold
their pee, but a child? Isn't this a form of child abuse? Cross said that she
found out about this unusual system after her son wet his pants during school
because he didn't have enough "Boyd Bucks" to go on a bathroom run!
Cross explained, "Really? That's just unhealthy!" Not to mention, her
young son came home crying because his fellow classmates started teasing him, prompting
Cross to demand the teacher end the stupid reward system.
Cross
said that when she originally spoke with the teacher, she was just going to
show my son special treatment, but then she said that wasn't good enough
because she wanted this reward system stopped for all the children. Cross then
spoke to administrators at the Dallas-area school who told the unidentified
teacher to do away with the system for bathroom trips, at the very least.
Administrators say that the teacher will not face any disciplinary action,
though Cross says she's thinking about asking that the instructor be
suspended.
Though,
I'm not against the whole reward system idea, I am against teachers not
allowing students especially kids to not got to the bathroom. That is just wrong
and unhealthy. A child's bladder is small and not as strong as our adult
bladders. I think that Miss Cross is in the right to be outraged and this
teacher should be disciplined for her actions especially because she's a rookie
teacher. This whole thing 'pisses' me off!
