It
looks like one of the biggest websites on the planet is about to close its
doors for the next decade! That's right! YouTube, as it turns out, was,
apparently, this big video contest, where they looked for the best video in the
world. According to the video blog site, which was launched in 2005, the site
was just a way for them to find the best video in the world and today, eight years
later, it is finally closing the competition. YouTube will stop taking
submissions on Tuesday, April 2, at midnight and close down. All videos
uploaded to the site WILL be deleted. So, if you uploaded anything to YouTube
at all, be smart and get the videos off before midnight tonight if you'd like
to save them for your own safe keep. This is crazy! So, this whole time, we've
been duped into thinking that YouTube was this site where we can share our
videos, when in actuality; these sickos are using our videos for a contest? Who
does that? I guess on a brighter note, all of our videos will be entered into a
contest.
The
only problem about being entered into the contest is, our personal videos will
be competing with videos like "Harlem Shakes" or "Gangnam
Style". How are we supposed to compete with that? Apparently, YouTube will
start announcing the best video nominees at around 9 a.m. Pacific time, which
is 12 p.m. Eastern time, today via a live streamed broadcast. Officials at
YouTube say that 30,000 technicians will go through the YouTube submissions,
including a panel of judges consisting of famous YouTubers like Antoine Dodson
and iJustine, who will vote on the "Best Video". Also, allowed to
vote are some of YouTube's all-star commenters. They will all be put into this
gigantic war room to narrow down the Best Video.
Here's
the kicker; after much deliberating, the Best Video won't be revealed until
YouTube re-launches in 2023. So, not only will the winner be chosen within the
next few days, they will be virtually time capsuled for the next decade, while
YouTube redesigns and re-launches. Oh, I almost forgot the amazing prizes!
According to another official at YouTube, as promised back into 2005 when
YouTube first went live, the winner will receive a brand new MP3 player that
clips to your sleeve and a $500 stipend for your next creative endeavor. Woah!
He urges YouTube fans not to forget to get their last minute submissions in
before midnight tonight.
Here
is the video that was released by YouTube announcing the end of YouTube:
By the way, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm not really that foolish, but if you believed this, you are! On behalf of myself and Google, APRIL FOOL'S! You know I had you for a minute!
