Would
you ever think that a couple who hosted a radio show called "The Pursuit
of Happiness" can possibly kill themselves in a double suicide? Well, it
happened! This was Brooklyn couple, John Littig (a motivational speaker) and
Lynne Rosen (a psychotherapist), who co-hosted the radio show "The Pursuit
of Happiness." The two were found dead on Monday on a couch in the living
room of their Park Slope apartment with plastic bags over their heads and a
helium tank. Police said there were also two notes left behind. In Littig's note,
he basically stated, "We're going to do this together." He also said,
without any other explanation, that he could not watch his wife suffer any
more.
According
to police, Rosen's note was a bit more apologetic, but it seemed there were
some psychological problems there. Until their decomposing bodies were found on
Monday, the couple had been best known as the hosts of a self-help radio show
on WBAI-FM in New York City, where for an hour every month, they took to the
airwaves and doled out advice on how to be your best self. What? This is one
hell of an example they left, huh? This is how you can best yourself, kill
yourself!
On
an April show, Rosen suggested, "People get scared to make changes, right,
and to step out of that comfort zone." Litting would pipe in,
"Alternatively, you can get comfortable with change." What were they
trying to tell us? That they needed a change? Then move and change your
surroundings! Why would you kill yourself? To be honest, I have no respect for
those who to decide to take their own lives because I have lost friends like
this and they have no idea how much they are missed when they are gone. I look
at it as extremely selfish and for two self-help people; it makes them look
pretty stupid too!
Police
say that Rosen and Littig chose to end it all sometime over the last week. They
used what was described on the FDNY website as "exit bags" to kill
themselves. According to the site, the bags are said to provide a fast,
peaceful, undetectable death to those wishing to commit suicide. Neighbors in
the 10-unit brownstone where the couple lived for two decades said that they
noticed a foul smell coming from their first-floor apartment earlier in the
week. They said the super kicked in the door after noticing blood dripping down
into the basement through their floor. Police have not said when the couple
ended it all, but neighbors say that they were told they had been dead for a
week before they were found. And while a sheet of plastic covered the door to
their apartment, building workers were spraying air freshener through the
halls.
Do
you see how selfish suicide can be? You leave a horrible stink after you leave
your decomposing body! Once again! Selfish! And let me be the one to remind you
that not all radio personalities are this depressed. I believe there was more
to this story that hasn't come to the forefront yet. For instance; maybe he
killed her with one of those bags because he couldn't take her anymore and
instead of going to jail, he decided to take his own life. He could've written
that note after he killed her to make it seem like they were doing it together.
I'm no Sherlock Holmes or anything, but it does make you wonder.
