LOCKED IN THE BEDROOM FOR 10 YEARS

It's no secret that sometimes guys would love to keep their girlfriends tucked away by lock and key. Especially, the wild ones who love to go out and party! Well, it seems that 42-year-old Michael Mendez from Paterson, NJ took that whole locking the girlfriend thing up to heart. Police recently searched Mendez's apartment for drugs and found a woman that they believe was kept padlocked in a bedroom for long periods of time over the last several years, maybe even as long as a decade.

State Police are saying that members of their street gang unit discovered the 44-year-old woman on Thursday as they searched the Paterson apartment of Michael Mendez, who is believed to be a member of the Latin Kings street gang. Based on interviews and other evidence, investigators believe that the woman was kept in the bedroom for extended periods of time for the last two years and possibly up to 10 years. The woman was sometimes let out of the room when Mendez was home.

One neighbor in the three-story apartment complex said that he's known Mendez for about a dozen years and that Mendez was a familiar face around the complex and would often be seen outside polishing his car and listening to music. He also stated that he saw the woman a few times in recent years getting into a car, but it was rare. Neighbors next to Mendez's apartment said that they weren't even aware that another person lived in the apartment. One neighbor said that he's never even seen a woman come out of that apartment.

Mendez, who police are saying is a member of the Latin Kings, was being held at Passaic County Jail. He's being charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and other counts, including some related to the drugs that officials said they were looking for in the first place. State Police found 4,200 prescription pills valued at $100,000, 190 grams of marijuana valued at nearly $2,000, and nearly $23,000 in cash inside his apartment. Mendez has two prior convictions for aggravated assault, one of which he served a 3-month jail term. The woman was receiving a medical evaluation as of Monday.

Personally, I don't see what he did wrong with the woman? Sometimes you need to keep your women in check, right? As for the drugs and being a part of a street gang, there's really no defense there. You're on your own with those charges, Michael. I mean, it could be worse, right? He could've been marrying this girl and she could've stabbed him in the heart on their wedding day. I think I'll take locking keeping her locked in a room for 10 years. Oops! Am I speaking out loud again?
