A BEER THAT TAKES A LOT OF BALLS TO DRINK....

I'm not a drinker, but as Americans, we love our beer, don't we? We drink it at home, at a bar, at parties, and even at ballgames. What if I told you about a beer made out of bull testicles? Would you try it? Come on! You're a beer lover! Well, a Colorado brewery has created a beer flavored with bull balls after the response to what was originally supposed to be an April Fools' joke proved to be overwhelmingly positive. What the hell does that mean? Did that mean people actually came into their brewery asking to try some bull gonad beer? Did their Facebook page blow up when they joked about releasing a testicular flavored beer? How can any positive response come out of this supposed joke? I'm gagging as I even look at the photo!

Anyway, last week, the Wynkoop Brewing Company tapped into the first keg of its Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout, made with 25 pounds of roasted bull testicles. Now, that's a lot of balls! Deep-fried bull balls, a.k.a. Rocky Mountain Oysters, are considered a local delicacy in Colorado. Apparently, in Canada's cattle country, the dish is called prairie oysters. Either way, the dish is a Colorado favorite! Are you gagging yet or what?

A spoof commercial promoting the then fictional beer for April Fools' Day back in April proved to be incredibly popular among beer bloggers, writers and fellow brewers alike, who fell for the joke and requested samples. It was after tasting a stout from Odell Brewing, who made the beer with real oysters that made Wynkoop decide to make good on their joke beer! The brew is made with local malts, roasted barley, seven specialty malts, Styrian Golding hops, sea salt, and has "3 Balls Per Barrel" or BPB. The testicles were sliced (I know...Ouch!) by hand and roasted before being added to the beer's mash.

The result is what the brewery describes as a "lightly gummy stout deep brown in color with flavors of chocolate syrup, Kahlua, espresso, and a savory umami-like note that finishes dry and roasted." Head brewer Andy Brown stated, "We've been making ballsy beer for the past few years!" Only eight barrels were brewed and will be available only at The Great American Beer Festival in Denver from October 11th till the 13th. If you live out in Colorado, go get you some Bull Balls! If not, sorry! You'll just have to enjoy the commercial for it below:
